The Poetry of Touch

Undergrad Project

9 minutes

2009

Touch is a subject that is not often talked about in American culture. We seem to be scared of touch and focused on the ways it is used negatively, rather than its positive and indispensable effects. As a dancer of fifteen years, I am interested in the human body and the different ways we use and move our bodies in our daily lives, including how we touch or do not touch others.

The Poetry of Touch explores the concept of human touch through the creation of a dance film. This film discovers and explores different viewpoints surrounding the issue of human contact, specifically focusing on how our culture in America differs from other cultures around the world. This piece provides viewers with concepts and themes that are open to interpretation based on their own experiences and beliefs. My goal is to inspire self-reflection in the viewer and further their thought about human relationships.
