This is a poster I made for Colin Woodford's solo cymbal performance at Machine Project {machineproject.com}. The quote above from Machine Project's website says it all. I decided to use rusty, copper tones and a central composition originating from an oval in the middle and spiraling out to reference the cymbal and the idea of a singular gesture with a large impact — the butterfly effect. I worked with woodblock type and an ornament system I'm in the process of creating to convey an "earthy and ancient" feel and to reference tradition while maintaining a personal and contemporary point of view.
